  • Step 1 – Goal Setting
    • Student Centered, Specific, Observable
    • Focused
  • Step 2 – Warm Up
    • 5-10 minutes
    • Interesting + Connected to lesson
    • Simple enough that kids can do on their own
    • Strategy 1 – hook question
      • not factual-based
      • personal + tied to life
    • Strategy 2 – jot thoughts
      • Kids write anything related to topic (1 idea per sheet)
      • Try to cover table with ideas
      • Extend with “Find-a-Frame”
        • Organize thoughts into categries (places, people, name, numbers, etc..)
        • Graphic organizers / mind map
    • Strategy 3 – Image/Object
      • See – what do you see
      • Think – what do you think is going on
      • Wonder – What does it make you wonder

  • Step 3 – Guided Practice
    • Student Centered = Active Learning

    • Jigsaw Groups
      • Divide lesson into different segments (chronological, categorical, etc)
      • Assign one or more segmnet to group of students
      • Give student time to read/study their segment ( maybe provide extra material )

      • students presest their segment to the group
      • Give a assessment or quiz on the material

  • Step 4 – Wrap Up
    • Strategy 1 – reflection worksheet
      • Give choice on what to fill in
      • Keep in class/journal
    • Strategy 2 – headlines
      • Students are to write a headline that expresses core of the lesson
      • Students share headlines with reason behind their choice
      • Find common theme between them
